More than the sum of your parts
This is a two part attunement to help you anchor into ‘self’ state, in order to meet and disidentify from the parts / subpersonalities who have wrecked havok on your life.
What you’ll meet inside:
Two attunements, recorded and produced by hannah
If you pay close attention to your inner world, you may notice that there are many different voices, impulses, emotions and ways of responding within you. There might be a part that wants to be seen, and another that wants to hide. A part that longs to take a risk, and another that immediately tells you why it's unsafe. A part that strives for perfection, a part that procrastinates, a part that people-pleases, a part that becomes critical, controlling, independent, playful, sensual or deeply afraid.
In psychosynthesis, these are often called sub-personalities. In this work, I call them gatekeepers.
A gatekeeper is a part of our psyche that has developed in response to our experiences and has taken on a particular role within the system. Often, its original intention is protective. It may have learned, at some point, that being hyper-vigilant, staying small, keeping control, pleasing others, achieving, withdrawing or numbing out was a way of keeping us safe.
Even when these strategies are no longer serving us — even when they are actively getting in the way of the life we want to live — there is usually something beneath them that is trying to protect, preserve or provide something for us.
This doesn't mean we have to agree with everything a gatekeeper does. Compassion doesn't require compliance.
The work is to begin developing a different relationship with these parts.
The Self
Alongside these many parts is something deeper: what psychosynthesis calls the Self.
Self is not another personality or another part of you. It is the deeper centre of awareness from which you can observe, relate to and hold the different aspects of your psyche.
When we are identified with a part, it can feel like I am this.
I am afraid.
I am a failure.
I need to control this.
I can't do this.
I have to make them happy.
I must get this right.
When we begin to disidentify, something shifts.
I am experiencing fear.
A part of me is afraid.
Something in me wants to control this.
There is suddenly a little more space between you and the experience.
That space matters.
It gives us the possibility of choice. It allows us to listen without immediately obeying. To feel without being completely overwhelmed. To recognise a protective pattern without becoming consumed by it.
This is why we begin by anchoring into Self.
The more familiar we become with this centred place of awareness, presence, compassion and inner authority, the more capacity we have to meet our gatekeepers without being taken over by them.
Becoming the conductor
I sometimes think of the psyche as an orchestra.
There are many instruments. Some are loud. Some are quiet. Some have been playing the same note for years. Some only appear when something feels threatening. And sometimes one instrument becomes so dominant that we can barely hear anything else.
The answer isn't to get rid of the instruments.
We are not trying to silence our parts, transcend them or become some perfectly integrated version of ourselves who never gets triggered again.
Instead, we are developing the capacity to become the conductor.
The conductor doesn't reject the violin because it is loud, or the percussion because it is intense. They listen. They understand what each instrument is capable of. They know when it needs to be brought forward and when it needs to soften. They create the conditions for the whole orchestra to play together.
This is the deeper purpose of parts work: not to get rid of our parts, but to develop a relationship with them that allows the whole system to become more conscious.
And this is where things become really interesting.
Because our gatekeepers don't only carry our wounds, fears and protective strategies. They also carry gold.
The part that became controlling may carry discernment and leadership.
The part that became hyper-independent may carry tremendous strength and self-reliance.
The part that learned to please others may carry sensitivity, attunement and relational intelligence.
The perfectionist may carry devotion, precision and a profound desire to create something meaningful.
The part that withdrew may carry a deep capacity for reflection and inner knowing.
The qualities aren't necessarily the problem. Often, it is the way those qualities have become organised around fear, protection or old beliefs that creates suffering.
Through this work, we begin to separate the gift from the strategy.
We can honour what a part has been trying to do for us, understand what it has needed, and begin to invite its gifts into a new relationship with the whole.
This is not about becoming less of who you are.
It is about becoming more deeply you — with greater freedom to choose which parts of you need to lead, which need to be heard, and which can finally rest.
The practices that follow are an invitation into that relationship: first, to become more familiar with the experience of Self, and then to begin meeting the gatekeepers who have been helping to run the system.
these attunements are included in my library which everyone who steps into mentorship or group immersions has access to.
This is a two part attunement. You will anchor into your Self State, so that you can meet your Gatekeepers and learn to disidentify with them.
